Nonprofit Photography Webinar Replay
I’ve done documentary work for nonprofits for over a decade now, and it has benefitted my photography tremendously – not to mention benefitting the communities served by the nonprofit!
I wrote an article about this years ago: Should Photographers Donate Time & Shoot For Free? The article, written in 2018, was prompted by recent (at the time) trends with magazines, editors, etc, asking photographers to work for free for the “exposure.” Exposure isn’t payment any photographer should be willing to accept. However, there is one instance in which I think it’s great for photographers to work for free – that’s donating their time to provide photography for nonprofits.
At the request of many students and other photographers over the years, I recently hosted a webinar on this topic, Getting Started in Nonprofit Photography. You can watch the one-hour webinar below. In it, we discuss:
- What nonprofit photography is and isn’t
- The benefits of doing nonprofit photography work
- How I got started
- Finding a nonprofit partner
- Planning for nonprofit photography work
- Paperwork and legal considerations
- Photographic considerations when working with a nonprofit
- Similar considerations for post-processing
This webinar continuously references the Better Photography Through Visual Storytelling course, which goes into more detail on some of these topics. The course also contains the text outline and downloads mentioned in this webinar. You can use our standing coupon, “blog20”, for 20% off this course.
